In The Margins: It’s Cassini’s Final Countdown
On 22 April, the Cassini-Huygens mission hit a milestone. It completed its 127th flyby of Saturn’s moon Titan. Now it’s time for the spacecraft’s final task. 22 week-long orbits, diving between the planet and its rings. And bringing it closer than ever to Saturn.
On 15 September 2017 it will meet its fiery end – burning up in Saturn’s atmosphere. But not before beaming back everything it has learned on its final journey. This last leg will add to its already enormous contribution to mankind’s understanding of Saturn.
