Solar telescopes and observing

Presented by Stargazers Club WA and Earthside Astronomy

Solar telescopes and observing

If you’ve been thinking about getting into solar telescopes and viewing the sun, this event is a great way to find out more about the different equipment you need and how to enjoy this activity safely.

Mark Davies from Earthside Astronomy will join Stargazers Club WA at Perth’s telescope shop, BinoCentral in Joondalup, for a closer look at all things solar. Mark will give a short presentation about different equipment needed to observe the Sun and how to do this safely.

After the presentation, we’ll join Keith Williams from BinoCentral and Mark outside where you’ll have access to demonstration solar telescopes and equipment to see the sun up close.

Please note: Safety is very important when it comes to solar viewing. Solar filters or specially designed telescopes are used to view sunspots and solar prominence activity. Never look at the sun directly as it can cause permanent eye damage or blindness.

Members can use free or discounted tickets. Non-members are welcome to attend with tickets available for $22 adults
and $12 children (recommended for 10-16 years).
