Finding our Place in the Universe
Finding our Place in the Universe is the 2018 George Seddon Memorial Lecture by David Blair, Emeritus Professor at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery.
Over less than two human lifetimes, discoveries in physics transformed the world and our sense of place in the universe. We harnessed electromagnetic waves, thereby shrinking our planet to a village—an infinitesimal speck in a vast and inflating universe. We have made countless discoveries, each encouraging us to reassess our place in the universe.
Come and listen to Professor David Blair discuss how the realm of physics is changing our understanding and perspective of the universe.
Professor David Blair’s work focuses on the methods for the detection of gravitational waves. He has developed a niobium wave gravity detector and developed the first sapphire clock, designed for use in space. He led the UWA team that participated in the first detections of gravitational waves.
